When it comes to technology, we have so much to be thankful for. There are so many apps, devices and websites that we have grown to love. Some of them have become such a big part of our everyday lives that we cannot begin to imagine living without them. The founders of these elements of technology have even more to be thankful of than we do – they get to live luxurious lives thanks to the billions of dollars they’ve earned from almost everyone in the world using their inventions. Let’s take a closer look at some of the world’s richest tech stars and what they’re worth.

 

Bill Gates

 

Tech entrepreneur and Microsoft founder Bill Gates is worth a whopping $128.3 billion. Gates and his wife Melinda recently used Twitter to announce that they are ending their marriage of 27 years but will continue to work together as co-chairs of their foundation, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. It is the world’s largest private charitable enterprise. While Microsoft is what initially landed him the big bucks, he has since sold or given away the majority of his stake in the company. When he stepped down from the company’s board in March 2020, he owned just 1% of its shares. 

 

Jeff Bezos

 

Jeff Bezos founded Amazon, the e-commerce giant, in 1994. At the time, the business was run out of his garage in Seattle. In late 2021, Bezos will step down as the company’s CEO and will take on the role of executive chairman. He is currently worth $187 billion. His company has claimed that between March and April of 2020, it hired an additional 175,000 employees to cope with the demands of online shopping brought on by the global health crisis. When he divorced from his wife MacKenzie in 2019, he transferred a quarter of his stake in Amazon to her. 

 

Mark Zuckerberg

 

Mark Zuckerberg started Facebook from his dorm room at Harvard in 2004. He was 19 at the time and designed the site as a means for students to match names to photos of their classmates. In May 2012, he took his company public, and although he has yet to allow the playing of real money games, he does have free to play options. He currently owns about 15% of it. Zuckerberg is currently worth $114.6 billion. In December 2015, Zuckerberg and his wife pledged to give away 99% of their stake in Facebook over the course of their lifetimes. 

 

Larry Ellison

 

Larry Ellison is currently worth $102.3 billion. He is the chairman, chief technology officer and co-founder of Oracle. In 2012, he spent $300 million on buying nearly all of Lanai, a Hawaiian island. To date, he has built a luxury spa and a hydroponic farm there. In December 2018, he joined the board of Tesla after purchasing 3 million shares.

 

Sergey Brin

 

Sergey Brin is a co-founder of Google. The search engine was started in 1998 and went public in 2004. He is reportedly funding a high-tech airship project with his $96.3 billion fortune. He stepped down as the president of Alphabet, Google’s parent company, in 2019. He remains a board member and a controller shareholder.
